What documentation should I include with my request for special accommodations?
ABPM requires physicians to submit documentation that supports the need for the requested accommodation(s). Documentation must be reviewed and approved by ABPM's Board of Directors.
Documentation may include:
- Medical records
- A letter from your physician sent directly to ABPM at abpm@theabpm.org
- Confirmation of previously approved accommodations
I've already scheduled my exam. Can I still request special accommodations?
Accommodations must be requested and approved prior to scheduling your exam.
If you request accommodations after you have scheduled your exam, you must cancel your current scheduled exam and reschedule to receive the accommodation(s).
If you choose to cancel and reschedule your exam, ABPM cannot guarantee that your exam can be rescheduled for the same date or at the same location previously scheduled.
What accommodations are available for the certification exam?
The accommodations Pearson VUE testing centers provide may include:
- Accommodations for nursing mothers
- Extra testing time
- A separate testing room
- Additional breaks
- Access to water or snacks
Please email abpm@theabpm.org if you have any questions about available accommodations.
Are there items I can take with me into the testing room while I take the exam?
Pearson VUE allows certain comfort aids in the testing room upon a visual inspection by the test center or online proctor staff. Visual inspection includes examining the item without directly touching it (or the candidate) and without asking the candidate to remove the item, unless otherwise stated in the list of allowed comfort aids provided by Pearson VUE here.
