How long will it take the Board to review my application and let me know if I'm eligible for the certification exam?
Applicants who submit their applications in May or earlier will likely receive the Board's decision within four weeks. Due to the volume of applications submitted later in the application period, those who submit their applications in June will usually receive a decision in six to eight weeks.
ABPM will review an application only after it has been fully completed and all required documentation has been received. All required supporting documentation must be submitted to ABPM by July 31, 2024. Applications that remain incomplete after the deadline of July 31, 2024, including those missing required documentation, will not be reviewed.
Applicants should track their application's status through the Physician Portal and should follow up with verifiers and references, as required, to ensure all supporting documentation is received in a timely manner.
What happens to my application after I submit it?
All applications are first reviewed by ABPM staff to ensure the required information and documentation are included. If any information or documentation is missing, or if more information is needed, ABPM staff will ask the applicant to provide it.
After the preliminary staff review, each application is reviewed by physicians certified in the relevant ABPM specialty or subspecialty. Board reviewers may approve or deny an application or request additional information from the applicant.
ABPM will communicate the Board's decision on their application by email.
Applicants may check the status of their application online through their Physician Portal account.
